L’Eixample — includes nieghborhood of  Ruzafa (Russafa)

 

Just south of Valencia’s historic center,  L’Eixample is an attractive, centrally located district known for its broad avenues, handsome architecture, excellent restaurants, cafés and shopping. It includes the neighborhoods of Pla del Remei, Gran Via and the especially lively Ruzafa (Russafa). Its central location makes L’Eixample a good choice for visitors who want easy access to the historic center while staying in a neighborhood with plenty to do close to their hotel.

 

Good for: A central location, restaurants, cafés, shopping and easy access to the historic center.Keep in mind: The atmosphere varies within the district. Pla del Remei and Gran Via tend to be more polished and residential, while Ruzafa is livelier and has more nightlife.

Getting to El Spot Studios: Good — you’ll be staying closer to the center of Valencia, with El Spot farther east toward the port. Public transportation or a taxi makes the trip straightforward.​​​​​​​​​​​

Ruzafa (Russafa)

One of Valencia’s liveliest and most colorful neighborhoods, Ruzafa is known for its creative, cosmopolitan atmosphere. Its streets are filled with cafés, restaurants, independent shops, galleries and neighborhood bars. At its heart is the colorful Ruzafa Market, surrounded by popular cafés and restaurants. Ruzafa is a great choice for visitors who want plenty of dining and nightlife close at hand while still being within easy reach of Valencia’s major sights.

 

Good for:   Restaurants, cafés, nightlife, shopping and a lively neighborhood atmosphere.
 

Keep in mind:    Ruzafa can be quite active in the evenings, so light sleepers may prefer accommodations on a quieter side street.
 

Getting to El Spot Studios:   Good — not the closest choice to the studio, but a good option for those who place a high priority on restaurants, nightlife and a lively neighborhood atmosphere.

Ciutat Vella — Historic Center

 

Ciutat Vella is the historic heart of Valencia and an excellent choice for first-time visitors who want to be surrounded by the city’s major sights.   Its winding streets and plazas are home to the Cathedral, Central Market, Silk Exchange, historic churches, museums, restaurants and cafés. Within Ciutat Vella is El Carmen, one of Valencia’s best-known historic neighborhoods, where medieval streets mix with restaurants, bars, shops and contemporary street life.

 

Good for: First-time visitors, sightseeing, history, architecture and being able to explore much of central Valencia on foot.    

 

Keep in mind:   Some streets — particularly around El Carmen — can be busy and noisy at night.

 

Getting to El Spot Studios: Good — you’ll be farther from the studio than in the eastern districts, but this may be a worthwhile trade-off for visitors who particularly want to stay in Valencia’s historic center.

.El Pla del Real

 

Just east of the historic center and alongside the Turia Gardens, El Pla del Real offers a quieter, more residential setting while remaining close to central Valencia. The district includes the beautiful Viveros/Royal Gardens, the Museum of Fine Arts and the Mestalla area. Its location provides convenient access to both the historic center and the neighborhoods farther east toward the waterfront.

 

Good for: A quieter stay, green spaces and convenient access to both central and eastern Valencia.

 

Keep in mind:   It has less of the concentrated restaurant and nightlife scene found in Ruzafa or the historic center.

 

Getting to El Spot Studios:   Very good — its location east of the historic center puts you closer to El Spot while still providing convenient access to central Valencia.

 

 

Camins al Grau

 

Between central Valencia and the maritime districts, Camins al Grau can be a particularly practical choice for visitors who want access to both. Primarily residential, the district has local restaurants, cafés and shops and is convenient to the Turia Gardens and the City of Arts and Sciences.

 

Good for:   A more residential atmosphere and a location between central Valencia and the waterfront.

 

Keep in mind:   It doesn’t have the same historic character or concentrated nightlife as Ciutat Vella or Ruzafa.

 

Getting to El Spot Studios:  Very good — Camins al Grau is immediately inland from Poblats Marítims, making it one of the more convenient areas for getting to the studio while remaining somewhat closer to central Valencia.

 

 

Poblats Marítims — El Grau, El Cabanyal, Marina & Beaches

 

For visitors who would like to stay closer to the Mediterranean, Poblats Marítims offers a very different Valencia experience. The district encompasses several maritime neighborhoods, including El Grau and the historic Cabanyal-Canyamelar area, with its colorful tiled façades and maritime heritage. The Marina and Valencia’s broad city beaches are also nearby, along with a growing selection of restaurants, cafés and cultural venues.

 

Good for:   Convenience to El Spot Studios, the Marina, beaches, seafood and rice restaurants, and a more relaxed seaside atmosphere.

 

Keep in mind:    You’ll be farther from many of the historic center’s major sights, so you’ll likely use public transportation or taxis when heading into central Valencia.

 

Getting to El Spot Studios:   Excellent — El Spot Studios is located near the port in the eastern part of the city, making Poblats Marítims one of the most convenient areas for participants who want to minimize their daily trip to the studio. 

 

A Note About the MapThe map shows Valencia’s larger districts, rather than every individual neighborhood. For example, Ruzafa (Russafa) is within L’Eixample, so you won’t see Ruzafa separately labeled on the map.  El Spot Studios is located near the port, in the eastern part of Valencia, close to the Camins al Grau/Poblats Marítims area. When choosing accommodations, participants may want to balance convenience to the studio with the type of Valencia experience they prefer — historic center, lively neighborhood, quieter residential area, or seaside.
